Why does my R10 collar go back to a longer tracking interval?

This applies to R10, R10i, R10 Hybrid and R10i Hybrid collars.

R10 collars have two kinds of mobile-network tracking interval:

  • 20 seconds or longer is permanent. The collar keeps it after being switched off and uses it until you choose a new permanent interval.
  • Under 20 seconds is temporary. It lasts at most 6 hours, or until the collar is switched off. After that the collar returns to the last permanent interval you chose.

If the permanent interval is, for example, 10 minutes, the collar returns to 10 minutes after every dense-tracking session and every time it is switched on.

How to choose

  1. First choose a permanent interval, for example 20 seconds. It is a good balance between update rate and battery life.
  2. Choose dense tracking, for example 5 or 10 seconds, only for the hunt.

On Hybrid collars the limit is 60 seconds. A mobile-network interval under 60 seconds is temporary in the same way, and after it the collar returns to 60 seconds. 60 seconds or longer is permanent.

Changes take time on a long interval

On a long interval a new choice takes effect only when the collar next connects. On a 10-minute interval this can take up to 10 minutes.
